MTV Africa Music Awards Returns

MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA) is set to make its return on 20 February 2021. The award show, last held in 2016, will be hosted in Uganda, Pearl of Africa. MTV Africa and MTV Base have partnered with Uganda this time to showcase African music, culture, and creativity.

The iconic award show is set to recognize and reward artists who have played a pivotal role in shaping Africa’s music in the past year. Top performers are lined up for the event, with the Grammy Award winner DJ Khaled being the night’s host.

Voting Opens

Voting for the artists in the 20 categories is currently open. The categories are contested with top African artists, including Burnaboy, Diamond Platinumz, Wizkid, Tiwa Savage, Khaligraph Jones, , among other top names in African Music.

The categories’ highlight is the Listeners’ Choice Award, having a total of 20 nominees drawn across the continent.

Being a virtual event, MAMA 2021 will be broadcasted in 180 countries on MTV Base (DStv Channel 322) and MTV (DStv Channel 130). If you miss the live broadcast, you can catch a repeat on BET International, BET Africa, and MTV channels worldwide.
